chronogram - film - drawing

Since last weeks tutorial the film will now be a single 2d drawing created in Photoshop and animated in After Effects. The last week has been a series of test with different paper sizes ranging from A1 - which were turned out to be too large for my mac and after effects to be able to manage - to A3.

After testing the drawing, also the final chronogram, will be A3 at a resolution of 450dpi …

The drawing is still a working progress but i’ll post a couple of the test films and one to show where i’m at.

The Chronogram was relatively well received … in the sense that it provided a definitive path to follow for the final film. Of the information on the drawing the alpha maps produced by the sketch up renders were the most interesting.

From the discussion it was suggested that departing from producing a film that attempts to be photo realistic and deals predominantly (if not exclusively) in a graphical style akin to the alpha maps may produce a more interesting film. I’ll see what i can come up with …

SketchUP to Blender

I’ve been having some trouble exporting my 3D SketchUP models into Blender 2.62. A couple of others in Unit 15 have been experiencing similar problems thus i was able to follow their lead and … after some time and research i got the models into Blender version 2.49.

The problem is that i had to scale the models down considerably in SketchUP and save the model as an obj. file. Then in 2.49 increase the clipping to its maximum setting. Now the model is in Blender but its proving pretty tricky to scale the model up to a suitable size to allow for animating any sequences for my final film.

I’ve resorted to animating still renders produced through VRAY for SketchUP using After Effects and i will try to use small elements of Blender animation and composite them into other rendered stills … hopefully the end result won’t look too poor.

I’ve been playing with depth of field for my film, this is the result of a bit of testing with a basic still render and after effects
